Cities in Poland

Short article on Poznan

Poznan is one of the cleanest cities in Poland. It is also a big business hub for Poland. It lies half way on the route from Berlin to Warsaw. You will find lots of people speaking in German and English. There are lots of fairs going on in Poznan all year around so be careful about planning your trip. I went there on a tourist fair and stayed at Blues hotel in Poznan. It was fairly close to fairgrounds and it was relatively new hotel. To see other hotels in Poznan you can go to Poznan hotels. Poznan boasts top universities, it has over 10 schools of higher education and a very talented labour force. Poznan also is a host to many musical events and the world famous boys choirs are from Poznan.

Positive aspects:
It is really a nice city. The parish church in the town centre and the main church on the island are really worth it. But do not try to do it on Saturday: lot of masses and you cannot get in. Basically all restaurants at the central square are worth it, but you have to check the individual prices. A large beer can easily vary between 7 and 12 PLN.
Negative aspects:
I had no really negative experiences. People are friendly and helpful. Not everybody speaks english and the posted menus are in Polish.

Positive aspects:
Cheap and exellent food and drinks. Cleaning of the city very good (Except for dog poo!) Value for money on Sioux City and Sphinx. We will be back regulary for the next 5 years as our daughter studies at the Medical University of Poznan.
Negative aspects:
The polish people in general has very little knowledge to foreign languages. Young people best. Prices differs a lot between the new fancy shopping centres and the more local shops.

Positive aspects:
Very clean streets. Exellent food for reasonable cost. We recommend the Sphinx and the Sioux City in the old city, nice outdoor serving with view to beautiful buildings.
Negative aspects:
We were disappointed of the general lack of knowledge of foreign languages in Poland. Even personnell at railway stations and taxi drivers were totally helpless with regard to communicate with foreigners. We speak both german and english. Advice to other travellers : Write down your questions on a piece of paper, it helped a lot.

Positive aspects:
Poznan is a very nice, clean city, with many fine restaurants to enjoy. I don't think you would get a bad meal in Poznan. With so many bad reports from many cities in Europe regarding scams, pick-pockets, etc, we felt very safe in Poznan, which is something all of Poznan should be proud of.
Negative aspects:
None at all.
